In 2001 wordt in Waregem een snoeiende gitaarband opgericht. Aanvankelijk trad de groep op onder de naam “A last fine Day” maar deze werd al snel veranderd in “Mogul” (naar Project Mogul: de militaire codenaam voor een onderzoeksproject naar buitenaardse wezens) Vanaf dat moment werd definitief de weg van de stoner ingeslagen. Tot drie maal toe sleept Mogul de gegeerde Stubru Demopoll Award naar huis! In 2003 vervoegt gitarist Jan Gobeyn de groep, wat zorgt voor een steviger en avontuurlijker geluid...
In februari 2006 brengt Mogul in eigen beheer een eerste EP uit, opgenomen in de Hype Studio. Zeven tracks vertalen de zoektocht naar een pure rock sound waarin geprobeerd wordt het rauwe live gevoel vast te leggen. Stomende power rock met catchy melodieën voeren aandachtige luisteraars vanuit hun garage naar de zanderige speeltuinen van Chris Goss. Midden 2006 wint Mogul de Pure FM Demo Contest en komt via deze wedstrijd in contact met Zoe (Calais). Er komt een internationale uitwisseling op gang waardoor Mogul regelmatig de kans krijgt de Noord Franse muziekliefhebbers te overtuigen. Nadien worden ook contacten uitgebouwd met Josiah (UK), Loading Data (Parijs) en Ramon Zarate (Luik) waardoor Mogul vaak buiten Vlaanderen optreedt.
In november 2007 duikt de band opnieuw de studio in om een eerste full album op te nemen dat uitkomt onder de stonervleugels van Buzzville Records. Gedurende enkele maanden wordt intensief opgenomen onder de enthousiaste begeleiding van de vaste live mixer Koen Vanhee. Alan Ward bezorgt het album de definitieve sound. “Build me a Hunchback” komt wereldwijd uit op 14 november 2008. De titel is een tekstflard uit de songtekst van “Return the Blues” en refereert ondermeer naar de gespannen verwachtingen en ontgoochelingen tijdens de turbulente opnameperiode. Zo besluit Stefaan Guyot, bassist en oprichter van de groep, zijn 4string aan de haak te hangen. Het grootste aandeel van “Build me a Hunchback” wordt nog door hem ingespeeld maar de noodzaak naar een waardige opvolger dringt zich op. Marjo De Keukelaere blijkt de geschikte oplossing. Het resultaat van deze muzikale zoektocht smaakt naar meer!
Intussen zijn er al nieuwe nummers in de maak, met een volgend album in gedachten.
In 2001, the city of Waregem spits out a fiery-hot guitar band.At first, this bunch of newborn crowd pleasers makes itself known under the name of “A last fine day”.Shortly after, the group changes its name to “Mogul” (inspired by “Project Mogul”, the military code name for a research project to discover extraterrestrial life forms).Stoner Rock became the band’s main religion, which pays off as they took home the much-acclaimed Belgian music award “Stubru Demopoll” up to 3 times!In 2003, Mogul grows even stronger with the arrival of Jan Gobeyn on guitar. At the dawn of February 2006, Mogul launches its first EP recorded at Hype Studio.By means of 7 tracks, Mogul tries to reach its audience with a rawness that simulates the sensation of a live, pure rock sound.Steaming power rock combined with catchy rhythms take the auditor away to a desert-like atmosphere that proved the preferred playground for other Stoner Rock icons such as Chris Goss.In the summer of 2006, Mogul takes home first prize at the Pure FM Demo Contest and meets the Calais rock band ‘Zoe’.This results into a friendship and a series of live performances on Northern French stages.In the meantime, Mogul got acquainted to more international bands such as ‘Josiah’ in the UK, ‘Loading Data’ in Paris and ‘Ramon Zarate’ in Liège, which offers Mogul the possibility to perform beyond the Flemish territory.In November 2007, Mogul enters the studio to work on its first full album under the surveillance of Freebird Records/Suburban.With the help of live mixing-specialist Koen Vanhee, the band commits itself to several months of recording.Under the influence of Alan Ward, the album gets the definite sound: “Build me a Hunchback” will be released worldwide on the 25th of August 2008.The title itself being a fragment from one of the album’s songs, “Return the blues”, it refers to the many expectations, stress and hard work, which went together with the realization of Mogul’s first work of art.Mogul even had to say goodbye to one of its founders, bass guitarist Stefaan Guyot, but not before playing the parts necessary to finish the album.However, Mogul needed a good bass guitar fast and finds it with Marjo De Keukelaere who now strengthens the group with his trusty 4-string.Finally, Mogul can be proud of its musical quest and can boast a mouth-watering first album!
Mogul is already working on more new songs with the next album in mind.
